Much has been made about the various game decisions that Joe Philbin has made throughout the season, including some head-scratching calls. Some included running out the clock at the end of the half against the Buffalo Bills, being too aggressive in the Green Bay Packers game, not being aggressive enough in the Packers game and more. Philbin talked about this and tried to explain that he doesn’t label himself one type of coach or another and instead, it depends on the game situation.
“Every game is different. That’s why we talk to the team, how we are going to do our best and how we communicate to the players? How we think the game is going to unfold to the best of my knowledge? I told you before, I have a game-management meeting with the coordinators, so they are not surprised. Again, I’m not saying I made the right decision to go for it on fourth-and-1, and it’s OK, but I told Bill (Lazor) on first down, if we get the ball on the one (yard line), we are going to go for it. There was no hesitation, but sometimes it doesn’t work.”
Philbin hasn’t made one or two questionable decisions in every game this season and these decisions had a huge role in the outcome of the game. Let’s hope he gets better fast, starting today against the Chicago Bears.
