![]() Written by Matthew Cannata The NFL supplemental draft is a chance for players who weren’t eligible for the regular draft to be selected by NFL teams. However, it is often news if a team selects a player rather than if teams pass up on players and don’t select anyone. This year, the Miami Dolphins may be considering using a pick as they recently attended a workout for SMU running back Traylon Shead. Shead only played in four games last season and gained 197 yards. Other teams that attended the workout were the Cowboys, Texans, Packers, Colts, Lions, Giants, Seahawks and Bears. Shead is six-foot-two and weighs 240 pounds. It isn’t immediately clear why the Dolphins would be interested in a running back unless the injury to Knowshon Moreno is much more serious than they are letting on. It also could be them just doing their due diligence to make sure no one slips under the radar and they don’t miss out on a sleeper. The most notorious selection in the supplemental draft came two years when the Browns used a secon-round pick on wide receiver Josh Gordon. Gordon was not eligible for the regular draft that year and had major character concerns coming into the NFL. Those concerns have proven to come to fruition as he is on the cusp of never playing again in the NFL due to his recent legal troubles. If the Dolphins or any team uses a pick in the supplemental draft, they will forfeit that pick in the 2015 draft. |
