The Green Bay Packers released their annual revenue report earlier this week and since they are a publicly-owned team, their report is made public and gives us a look inside the multi-billion dollar business that is the NFL.
The report shows that the 32 teams split north of $6 billion dollars. That $6 billion is evenly distributed amongst the teams, which gives the Dolphins $187.7 million dollars. This amount is a 4.3 percent increase over 2012.
The increase, and the money in general, is attributed to revenues coming in due to the NFL Network appearing on additional television sets and increased revenue with Nike. It’s also attributed to the huge national TV contracts with NBC, ESPN, FOX, CBS and DirecTV. The wireless deal with Verizon also adds to the number.
It is expected that this shared revenue number will increase again next season when additional revenue for Thursday night football on CBS begins. In addition, the NFL will be re-negotiating the deal for DirecTV Sunday Ticket.
