The Drive - Written by Matthew Cannata
With the news of Dion Jordan getting suspended for the first four games of the regular season due to violating the NFL's policy on performance enhancing substances, the attention is now turned to the remainder of the backups on the defensive line. Primarily though, the main focus will be on Derrick Shelby, who now must take on an even bigger role.
In limited action last year, Shelby did a pretty good job. He’s fast, disruptive and has been playing in the NFL since 2012 after signing as an undrafted free agent out of Utah. Since then, he’s been a favorite of head coach Joe Philbin, mainly because he works hard, keeps his mouth quiet and does whatever is asked of him.
