One of the biggest things that any coach will talk about in any sport is the fact that players need to execute on the field. You can be the best coach in the game but if you have players who can’t properly do the things you’re trying to teach in order to be successful on the field, you’re probably going to have a very tough time being successful. That’s why it’s so important that everyone on the Miami Dolphins are on the same page and it seemed they got on track on Sunday against the Oakland Raiders.
“You know, I just think we're all on the same page. We all came out and made plays together. It wasn't one particular group that was carrying it,” said Ryan Tannehill. “The receivers were making plays, the running backs were running hard, offensive line was giving me a clean pocket and doing well in the run game. Receivers were blocking outside for each other. It was just a clicking. We were clicking as an offense, we got some momentum going and got our confidence up and just rolling.”
Tannehill was one of the players who was being heavily criticized for failing to execute. While he had many of his receivers drop his perfectly thrown passes, he did miss a few wide open guys so the blame was large enough to spread around. However, instead of changing who he was, Tannehill tried to be the same person but also remember that he needed to have more confidence in himself.
“Oh, I just tried to be the same guy. No matter what's going on the outside, I still have a job to do. I still prepare the same way every week, go out to practice and do my best to get better each and every day, and the guys around me kind of respond to that, I think, and played well tonight around me. I was just able to do my job, and the guys around me were doing their job, as well.”
We’ll see if the Dolphins can continue to execute in the second part of the season. If they don’t, they can find themselves right out of the playoff mix, especially with a tough schedule coming up starting in week six against the Green Bay Packers.
