Jordan Tripp starting to turn heads

Rookie linebacker Jordan Tripp didn't get drafted until the fifth round, but so far he's showing that he has the talent to greatly outplay his draft position. That has also translated to him getting several looks with the first team defense and in the nickel package. He's been given work both as an outside linebacker and a middle linebacker, and he's making the best of both.

"It's a broad spectrum. The more knowledge you can bring to the game the more reliable you're going to be," Tripp said. "My comfort level is only getting better and better. I'm just taking advantage of the reps they give me and focus on making new mistakes, not the same ones again, and learning from those mistakes."

Tripp has indeed been improving since his arrival in Miami, and if it continues, he may very well replace one of the veteran starters. Whether that means directly replacing Philip Wheeler or Dannell Ellerbe, or replacing Koa Misi in the middle so Misi can take the place of either of those two remains to be seen.

With the linebacker core being the one glaring weak spot on the team, Tripp's apparent talent gives hope that the situation is nowhere near hopeless at that position.
