As we mentioned in the previous post, there are rumblings from various players in the Miami Dolphins locker room about the lack of in-game adjustments and the play-calling from defensive coordinator Kevin Coyle. On Monday in his weekly press conference, Coyle addressed those rumors head on and also admitted that he needs to look at himself and figure out what can be done better.
“Well, first thing is to answer your question, no, I didn’t hear any of that. I’ll say after a game, a lot times everybody is all emotional. Emotions run high. Guys may say something and they haven’t had a chance to look at the tape. We haven’t had a chance to look at the tape and then I think we’ll all come back in and look at it as a group tomorrow and everybody will take responsibility for the things we didn’t do well, starting with me."
"There’s things that I could have done better in the game, I’ll grant you that. Throughout the game, there’s 72 opportunities yesterday to make calls and you know you like to be right 72 out of 72 and it’s not always going to work that way. But you do the best you can and I think the players that will come in, and I’m not sure who said it or what, but it’s not a big deal to me because they’ll look at the tape and they’ll see that there’s a lot of areas that we made mistakes in and we can do better, and collectively that’s what we need to do to go forward.”
Coyle came to the Dolphins three years ago with Joe Philbin but has not really improved the defense since his time here. In the public eye, Coyle is on the hot seat but Philbin did give him a vote of confidence by saying that he has full confidence in his defensive staff. We’ll see what improvements Coyle makes this coming week against the Oakland Raiders.
