Lamar Miller will have his third chance in two years to establish himself as the lead running back for the Miami Dolphins. Last year in 2013 after Reggie Bush left for Detroit, Miller failed to take hold of the job and split reps throughout the season with Daniel Thomas. This offseason and preseason, he once again had the chance but couldn’t nail it down and lost the majority of carries to Knowshon Moreno. Now, with Moreno injured, he will have a chance once again and is ready to get the running game back on track.
“I’m good. Everything is good. So I’m good. I want to just to help this team any way possible. Get positive yards and just keeping the chains moving. I wish the game was here tomorrow, but we’ve got to prepare and just get ready for this upcoming game. I’m going to do anything to help this team win.”
The Dolphins had a lot of success running the ball against the New England Patriots, rushing for 191 yards on 38 carries and averaging 5 yards per attempt. That number went way down against the Buffalo Bills when the team rushed for 80 yards on 21 carries while averaging 3 yards per carry. Miller says that they need to go back to the fundamentals and learn to trust each other.
“We want to be productive in the running game. We want to be productive in the passing game, too. We want to be a more balanced offense. We’ve just got to do our assignments, what the coaches have been telling us throughout the whole week. Just trusting our offensive linemen, making sure they get their blocks and just running the ball hard.”
Damien Williams is also expected to get more touches with Moreno down and he is ready to go once the ball is snapped on Sunday.
“I’m really a calm person. I really don’t fold under pressure, that type of thing. As he (Knowshon Moreno) went down, I was ready to go. I was ready to fill in what he was doing already. I felt really comfortable, being able to get in. Like I said, being in the preseason and doing what I did, it really built my confidence for being successful. Going out on the field, all I did was just continue to do what I was doing.”
Williams hasn’t been told what kind of role he’ll have on Sunday but as we’ve mentioned previously, it looks like he will have numerous opportunities to make an impact in the game. Hopefully he’ll be able to fill some of the void left by Moreno and help get the running game back on track.
