Have you ever played the game Two Truths and a Lie? It’s an icebreaker that has a person tell two truths about their life and one lie and the other person has to figure out which one is the lie?
When I heard all the buzz about Adam Gase and when I actually watched the game film I felt that the media was playing two truths and a lie about Gase. The media said he was an innovator, an offensive genius, and made quarterback Jay Cutler improve his play.
So guess which one is the lie. Maybe lie is a strong word but after watching three games from the Bears last year, I would hardly say that Gase was an innovator of offense. In fact I would say I saw more original plays from Bill Lazor than I saw from Gase. I watched three games and saw no original plays from Gase.
Now that being said, after watching Gase’s offense I will say that he is a true offensive genius, or at the very least he has an immense knowledge about offense. He also does customize game plans to attack teams in a specific way. It is also obvious that Cutler was playing a lot more efficiently when Gase was calling plays. I believe that Gase did a really good job of protecting Cutler, and calling plays that Cutler could execute.
I have to come clean, I was not a huge fan of the Miami Dolphins hiring Gase. I thought he was getting hired because he worked with Peyton Manning, and if that was the case then we should have at least interviewed Papa John. But after watching Gase having to deal with the injuries on the Bears offense last year, I have to give him a ton of respect. He also has shown to be able to game plan really well.
Below is my film review of what Gase did with his plays, so bear with me (no pun intended) as we go through these plays. Here is the legend for your reference.
