With the Miami Dolphins well rested after their trip to London with an extra week off, will it prove to be an advantage for the team? More specifically, did Bill Lazor and Ryan Tannehill spend more time together to go over specific scenarios and get in some extra film study?
“I’d say the usual procedure for the most part other than the bye week. Hopefully, our usual procedure is pretty thorough. Now, the reality is, yeah, the bye week, there’s more time. We had a little bit of extra practice last week to work on pushing some areas that we wanted to advance. There are a lot of areas that we want to advance in. We had to pick some and use our time towards that. A little bit was focused on Green Bay. A lot of it was focused on us, what we need to do better, where we want to keep going, maybe complements to things we’ve done well. Really, we’re still spending time today, as a coaching staff, working on that.”
In terms of game-planning, some think that all the coaches do for two weeks is prepare for the next opponent. Did the Dolphins' coaches bunker down and try to create the perfect plan for the Green Bay Packers?
“There’s always a tendency to add more. I think the first game of the year and after bye week, if you play a Thursday night game, have a little extra time. Sometimes, I find myself fighting that tendency. What we’ve worked really hard to do is study ourselves and watch, not only our first four games, but we’ve even, at times, gone back and looked at what we did in preseason a little bit. That work hopefully has kept the game plan to where it’s supposed to be. We have a set number in each area that we try to stay near, which keeps us in check.”
Sometimes, less is more and it certainly looks like Joe Philbin and his staff believe in that as they prepare to face the Packers on Sunday at Sun Life Stadium.
